dc.description.abstract Strategic human resource management is a mechanism to address the problem of low employees’ motivation and poor performance. Yet there is scant knowledge about the role of strategic human resource management towards employees’ motivation in the context of telecommunications companies. Therefore, this study has covered the knowledge gap by examining the role of strategic human resource management in motivating employee performance at Habari Node Plc in Arusha, Tanzania. The study sought to achieve four specific objectives which include to assess employee awareness on the general roles of strategic human resource management at Habari Node PLC, to determine perception of employees on determinants of motivation at Habari Node PLC, to assess attributes of employee performance at Habari Node PLC, and to assess the role of strategic human resource management towards motivation of employee performance at Habari Node PLC. The study employed quantitative research approach and adopted descriptive research design. The study was based on the population of 100 employees from which a sample size of 76 respondents was selected who were sampled by using simple random sampling. Data were collected using structured questionnaires. Analysis of findings was done by descriptive statistics which include frequencies, percentages, mean and standard deviations. Findings have shown that employees were aware about strategic human resource management roles including analysis of business environment, strategic planning and managing uncertainties. Findings have also revealed that employees at Habari Node Plc are motivated by both monetary and non-monetary factors such as salaries, allowances, working relationships and working conditions. Findings have shown that Habari Node PLC measures employees’ performance by focusing inputs, throughputs and output indicators. Findings have also indicated that strategic human resource management facilitates motivation of employee performance at Habari Node PLC. On basis of study findings, this study provides the following recommendations. Habari Node Plc should improve employee awareness on strategic human resource management so as to enhance ability of the company to compete in the market. Employees should be trained on how to create tactical and strategic plans at the operational levels en_US
