Abstract:
The feasibility study has a high impact on investment decision-making. In order to come up
with rigorous contractual decisions there is a need for valuable feasibility studies in any
construction project. This study aimed to assess the Influence of Feasibility Study on the
Construction Projects’ Performance in Tanzania Local Government Authority; A Case of
Bunda District Council”. A descriptive research design was adopted to obtain a sample of 77
respondents that included all contractual stakeholders such as clients, consultants and
contractors. Descriptive statistics was employed to analyze quantitative data in the SPSS
version v.26 while content analysis was used to analyze qualitative data. The study aimed to
identify factors that may affect operationalization of feasibility study in Local Government
construction projects, to assess the effect of feasibility study in the performance of
construction projects and to determine the extent to which project feasibility can adders and
improve project performance in Tanzania Local Government Authority. The findings of the
study revealed that the current status of government projects is down in the gutters. Tanzania
Local Government Authority project congruously encounter overruns due to miss
management and poor planning. Through an extensive literature review, it was found that
feasibility studies could address overruns continuously encountered within the construction.
Through applied research, questionnaires, interviews and effective factor analysis
methodologies the study concretes the need for feasibilities, alongside strong governance. It
was found that economic factors still lead the decision –making scheme towards granting
projects the green light for construction. Further findings illustrate that complete and through
studies are not conducted, indicating a productive beneficial loss of potential gain. Moreover,
the governance, rather than feasibilities, could have a positive effect against overruns.
Therefore, Tanzania Local Government construction project suffers a great deal from cost and
schedule overruns. Feasibility studies may hold the answer in mitigating these overruns.
Comparing the theatrical best practice for feasibility studies and the practical execution, it is
possible to determine where the construction industry is lacking. The study recommends that
tailored producers should be developed specifically for Local Government project. And that
governance over these procedures should be enforced if overruns are to be mitigated.
