dc.description.abstract This study focuses on evaluating the contribution of community policing in reducing crime in Rombo District, Kilimanjaro. The study was guided by three specific objectives: (i) to examine the practices employed in crime reduction, (ii) to determine the contribution of community policing in crime reduction, and (iii) to explore the challenges associated with its implementation. Using a qualitative research approach, data was collected through key informant interviews with community members, law enforcement officers, and local leaders. The study was grounded in Social Disorganization Theory, which explains how weakened social structures, such as poverty, low social cohesion, and residential instability, contribute to increased crime. The findings revealed that practices such as frequent community meetings, neighbourhood watch programs, and police patrols have contributed significantly to crime reduction, though challenges like resource limitations and inadequate training remain. Community policing has fostered improved relations between police and the public, enhancing trust and collaboration, leading to higher crime prevention rates and the addressing of specific issues like drug-related crimes. However, challenges such as cultural barriers, inconsistent participation, and a lack of government support have hindered its full effectiveness. It is concluded that community policing in Rombo District has significantly reduced crime through practices such as community meetings and neighbourhood watch programs, improving trust and collaboration between the police and the community. However, its full potential has been hindered by challenges such as resource limitations, inadequate officer training, inconsistent community participation, and insufficient government support. Addressing these issues is essential to ensure the continued success and sustainability of community policing in the district, allowing both the police and the community to work more effectively in preventing and controlling crime. Recommendations include increasing resources, training, and public awareness, alongside greater government support to ensure the sustainability and success of community policing initiatives in Rombo District. en_US
