dc.description.abstract The study examined the factors affecting the adoption of green procurement towards green procurement practices in public sector. A total sample of 70 respondents was involved. interview, questionnaires and document review were used. The findings showed no varied opinions about factors affecting TANESCO on the adoption of green procurement in public sector in the sense that all respondents agree that lack of awareness, lack of legal framework, lack of technology, lack of innovation and lack of trainings were main factors contributing to poor implementation of green procurement in Tanzania. It shows that respondents had different opinion about how procurement drivers influence green procurement in public sector, they specifically, agreed that environmental legislation and pressure were seen as procurement drivers on green procurement in public sector. REG 2013, 241. -(1) provides that a procuring entity shall avoid wherever possible the procurement of chemicals, pesticides or other goods which are known to have or suspected to have harmful effects on the health of the population, environment, domestic animals, wildlife and flora. The findings also show that there were no specifications, lack of environmental criteria, lack of the policies and strategies as main challenges facing TANESCO in the adoption of green procurement. The study recommends that, the PE should prepare green procurement standards, and implement green procurement, each company should identify its green procurement policy and details, produce a green procurement standards document, and disseminate it throughout the company. Institutions need to ensure that training is part of their goal, the staff should attend training periodically on green procurement related matters for the purpose of adoption of green public procurement to ensure that it is accelerated and enhanced to produce the desired outcome. en_US
