Despite their importance, police officers in different regions of Tanzania including Moshi Town
work under insufficient resources, low salaries, poor working condition while living in poor
housing This general objective of the study was to explain determinants of job satisfaction
among police officers working at Moshi Central Police, The study was guided by three specific
objective which included to determine the extent of job satisfaction among police officers
working at Moshi Central Police. to explain the influence of monetary rewards on job satisfaction
among police officers at Moshi Central Police, and analyze the influence working environments
on job satisfaction among police officers at Moshi Central Police. The study was guided by
quantitative research approach in sampling, data collection and analysis. The study involved a
sample size of 91 junior police officers. A self-administered questionnaire was utilized in data
collection. Then. data were analyzed through descriptive and inferential statistics. The study
found that police officers expressed satisfaction with promotion opportunities, relations with
coworkers, relations with supervisors, and allowances. On the other hand, police officers
expressed dissatisfaction regarding their job positions, salaries, and work environments. The
study also found that indicate monetary rewards in terms of salary increase and promotions
influence job satisfaction through increasing police officers' commitment, preventing police
officers from taking bribes, increasing loyalty among police officers, and enhancing retention of
police officers. The findings of regression analysis indicated that the beta coefficient between
monetary rewards and job satisfaction is 0.634 at a significance value (p) = .0000.05, entailing
that increase in monetary rewards causes increase in job satisfaction. Moreover, the study
revealed that working environments such as provision of transport, equipment, decent housing, guidance and counselling and sufficient employees, collective influence job satisfaction. Regression analysis results indicated that the beta coefficient between monetary rewards and
job satisfaction is 0.534 at a significance value (p) = .0005.0.05, entailing that increase in
monetary rewards causes increase in job satisfaction. On basis of findings this study concludes
both monetary rewards and working environments are important determinants of police officers' job satisfaction. The study recommends improvement of salaries and working conditions for
police officers. |
