Abstract:
The study is intended to assess the impact of force accounts on the performance of government
projects: a case of the Immigration Training College in Tanga, Tanzania. The study aimed to
achieve the following objectives: assessing the cost-related impacts of force accounts on the
performance of government projects. To evaluate the schedule-related impact of the force
account on the perfomlance of government projects under the force account and to investigate
the quality-related impact of force accounts on the performance of government projects. The
study used two theories, including transaction cost theory and resource-based theory. This
study employed a descriptive research design. Data was collected from 150 respondents. The
study also employed both primary and secondary data to gather information from the
respondents. Quantitative data was analysed using descriptive statistics such as frequencies
and percentages. Qualitative data was analysed using content analysis. The study found that
there is a presence of a quality-related impact of the force account on the performance of
government projects had a mean of 3.72 and a standard deviation of 1.023, as 23.1 percent of
respondents disagreed that the quality-related impact of the force account on the performance
of government projects influenced the performance of government projects, 58.5 percent of
respondents agreed, and 18.5% strongly agreed. The study findings indicate that most of the
respondents, both employees and non-employees, understand how the quality-related impact
of the Force Account on the performance of government projects brings about a positive
performance on government projects. The study concludes that using FA in government
projects is very important, and the organisation, which is ITC, should ensure the implementation
of a force account in government projects. The study recommends that the use of force accounts
can positively increase and improve the performance of government projects. Force Account
improves the cost-effectiveness of government projects as well as FA because it is simple to
use. Therefore, the study recommended that ITC, with the help of the government, highly
emphasise the usage of force
