Abstract:
This study is about assessing factors determining agro-pastoralist conflict management. The
study sought to find out the practice of legal and regulatory factors in determining farmer
and pastoralist conflicts management in Kisarawe district, to examine the practice of
environmental factors in determining farmer and pastoralist conflicts management in
Kisarawe district, and to examine the influence of leadership in determining farmer and
pastoralist conflicts management in Kisarawe district. The study was guided by institutional,
environmental security, and conflict resolution theories. The study used a cross-sectional
design whereas stratified and purposive sampling strategies were used to select
respondents. Both primary data and secondary data were used while data collection
methods were questionnaires and interviews. Data was used using descriptive, inferential,
and content analysis. The study found a critical relationship between legal and regulatory
factors and conflict management. The high positive correlation signifies a strong association,
underlining that legal and regulatory frameworks significantly influence conflict management
strategies. This suggests that enhancing legal and regulatory frameworks can substantially
contribute to more effective conflict resolution in the agro-pastoralist context. The strong
positive correlation signifies a robust relationship between environmental factors and conflict
management. Moreover, the regression analysis, underscores that an increase in
environmental factors is strongly associated with a significant increase in conflict
management. This implies that prioritizing sustainable environmental practices can lead to
improved conflict management and resolution within the agro-pastoralist context. The study
indicated a strong positive correlation which demonstrates a significant association between
leadership and conflict management. The regression analysis reaffirms that effective
leadership positively impacts conflict management. The study concluded that legal and
regulatory framework, environmental factors, and leadership influence agro-pastoralist
conflict management. The study recommended that establishing a Conflict Resolution
Committee involving stakeholders from both communities can significantly contribute to
conflict mitigation.
