Abstract:
Generally, Peace and Security has a remarkable implications on community sustainable. In many
countries especially second and third world ones of Africa and Asia it has contributed to excessive
poverty, separation of families, refugees, social injustices, corruption and failure to achieve
reasonable economic investments in these areas thus increase the rate of dependence while
leaving majority in misery lives. This study analyzed peace and security on community sustainability
in
area bordered with historical unrest in Buhigwe District Council, Kigoma-Tanzania.
Questionnaires were used to collect quantitative data from 143 respondents (household members)
by focusing on awareness, causes and impacts of insufficient peace and security in the area. In the
other side, 17 interviews were conducted on causes and impacts of insufficient peace and security,
it
included VEOs, WEOs, WPOs and military officers from five wards of Munanila, Kibande,
Kilelema, Nyamugali, and Mugera of Buhigwe District. The findings of this study showed that
community member have the knowledge about peace and security, however their understanding
underlined by their education level leaded by 64.3% of primary level, 25.9% of secondary level,
6.5% of college graduates and 3.5% who were never been to school. In the other side, events that
distort peace and security in the study area associated with foreigners from neighbor countries who
individually of jointly with inhabitants involve in events includes vehicle and cattle raiding, social
injustices and robbering while the situation increase tension among citizen, migrating to other areas,
reducing for possibility of economic investment in the area. It was recommended that, strengthening
of domestic and international collaboration can be vital to solve the existing conflicting situation for
sustainability of Buhigwe Distict Council and other areas with the same challenges.
