dc.description.abstract |
The establishment of a peaceful society and the consolidation of democracy are seriously
threatened by Tanzania's high rates of cybercrime and insecurity. Past events have shown that
the police are unable to handle these intricate social issues on their own, instead, a more
proactive, preventative strategy that depends on community involvement required. In the
Tanzanian context, a significant percent of the population is connected to the internet as the
result the government established a unit within the Police Force to address challenges of
cybercrimes. However, the impact of cybercrimes is still threatening the security of internet
users. In 2022, about 720 cases were reported to the cybercrime unit. Study objective was to
make an assessment on contribution of cyber security technology on the prevention of crimes
in Tanzania police force in Iringa Municipal. The research was used sample size involving 53
respondents and 7 key informants making eventual sample size to a total of 70 participants. A
sample size of 70 respondents was used to obtain for qualitative data analysis was drawn from
seven key informants involving 3 TCRA officials, and 4 officers from police forces those who
deal with cybercrime cases. Study shows that 44% of respondents moderate on effectiveness
of police security tools in preventing crime where in level of competence revealed that 81% of
respondents reported low with research skills as the level of competency among the Police
personnel on the utilization of technological tools expeditious retrieval of information. Study
shows 40.0% fighting cybercrimes presents major challenges due to corruption where Police
Tanzania as the top institutions that society accuses of being corrupt. Study concludes that The
Tanzania Police as the government organizations tasked with controlling cybercrime. The force
has developed management-level strategies that include creating a separate department of
cybercrime to manage the crimes, participate in policy forums, and network with other
institutions like banks and telecom companies that have been impacted by cybercrimes. Study
recommend a strategy on the management of cybercrimes is being developed by the
government with the assistance of the Tanzanian police force in order to build awareness of the
dynamics of cybercrime and make a strategic addition to the Cyber Act also Tanzania Police
Force's staff must receive the necessary training in information and communications
technologies in addition to training in the prevention and management of cybercrimes if it is to
continue its efforts to manage cybercrimes. |
