Global and Tanzania police force labor turnover presents a significant challenge. Despite its impact
on national security agencies, there has been limited research on the contributing factors. This study
aims to address this gap, examining the causes of labor turnover in the Tanzania police force with
Arusha city as a case study. Additionally, it explores solutions to overcome this issue, crucial for
informing policymakers and security personnel. The mixed-method approach involved a population
of 1101 police staff in Arusha city and 4 former police officers. The study used a sample size of 92
respondents from Tanzania police force employees in Arusha city and 4 former police officers,
employing probability sampling techniques such as simple random sampling, purposive sampling,
and snowball sampling. Data collection included questionnaires, documents, and interviews.
Descriptive methods were used for qualitative and quantitative data, analyzed with Statistical
Package for Social Science (SPSS) and Microsoft Excel. The research identified poor working
conditions, insufficient salaries, job stress, lack of promotion, absence of overtime payment, job
dissatisfaction, and lack of motivation as factors contributing to labor turnover in the Tanzania police
force. The study recommends adopting motivation schemes and competitive retention strategies to
address these issues in the current labor market. |
