Abstract:
The use of Electronic Record Information Systems (ERIS) in public hospitals has become
increasingly popular as a means of improving healthcare service delivery. The aim of this study
is to evaluate on the effectiveness of ERIS in service delivery in public hospitals, with specific
objectives being to identify factors contribute to ERIS reliability and accessibility in public
hospitals service delivery, to explore users’ perceptions and experiences regarding reliability
and accessibility of ERIS in public hospital service delivery, to access how reliability and
accessibility of ERIS influence service delivery in public hospital and to analyze the relationship
between technical infrastructures of ERIS and service delivery outcomes in public hospitals.
The research design for this study is a descriptive design, and the research approach used is
qualitative and quantitative methods. Tools used in analysing quantitative data are Statistical
Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) and Microsoft excel program. The population for this study
involved healthcare professionals who interact with the electronic record information system at
Mount Meru Hospital, and sampling techniques were convenience sampling and simple random
sampling techniques. The primary data collection method is self-administered questionnaires.
Analysis techniques include content analysis, descriptive statistics, frequency distributions, and
regression analysis to understand ERIS's effectiveness on patient care and hospital
management. Findings from this study are useful in improving healthcare service delivery in
public hospitals, and in providing guidance to policymakers and hospital administrators in their
efforts to implement and improve the use of ERIS in public hospitals. The findings of this study
could have significant implications for the future of healthcare technology and the provision of
quality healthcare services to the public hospitals. The study findings conclude that ERIS in
improving healthcare service delivery in public hospitals is a results of a number of factors.
Recommendations can be made: Hospitals should invest in robust technical infrastructures, including
computers, software, and networks, to ensure the reliability and accessibility of ERIS. Regular
maintenance and upgrades are essential to prevent technical issues. Hospitals should establish backup
systems to ensure the availability of ERIS during power failures and technical issues. This will help
maintain service delivery quality even in emergency situations. Efforts should be made to improve
interoperability between ERIS and external healthcare providers to enable seamless data exchange.
This will enhance collaboration and patient care across different healthcare institutions.
