Abstract:
This study assessed the factors affecting the Performance of water projects in Tanzania. A case
study of Rural Water Supply Agency Iringa in Region. The specific objectives of the study were to
examine the effects of project planning on the performance of water projects in Rural Water
Supply Agency Iringa in Region,to determine the effects of personnel competency on the
performance of water projects in Rural Water Supply Agency Iringa in Region, and to examine the
effects of projects stakeholder’s involvements on the performance of water projects. The study
employed quantitative and qualitative research methods to investigate the stated objectives. The
study's sample size was 257 respondents from Kilolo, Mufindi, Iringa and Rural Water Supply
Agency Iringa in Region headquarters. Simple random and purposive sampling techniques were
used to select respondents. Data were analyzed using correlation and regression models while
thematic analysis was used to analyse qualitative data. The findings revealed that the project's
planning process has positive and significant effects on the performance of the water project at
RUWASA (p<0.05). Findings also revealed that personnel competence has an insignificant
impact on water project performance (p = 0.91). Also, there was a significant relationship
between stakeholder involvement and the performance of water projects at RUWASA (p = 0.000).
The study concludes that the project planning process and stakeholder involvement have a
positive and significant influence on the performance of water projects. The study recommends
that project planning and stakeholder involvement should be a continuous process to enhance
water projects planning and stakeholder involvement to enhance water project performance.
