ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study was to understand the factor influencing stress at the work place to
public servant in Tanzania, a case study of TEMDO. The study was guided by three research
objectives which are to: identify the levels of stress to the public servant at TEMDO, to
examine the causes of stress at the work place to the public servant at TEMDO and to identify
the impact of stress at the work place at TEMDO. The study was underpinned by a case study
design whereby a sample size of 62 respondents was selected through convenience and
purposively sampling techniques. The researcher used interview, questionnaires, and
documentary review as the tools of data collection; whereas the qualitative data were
analyzed by content analysis and quantitative data were analyzed by Microsoft excel. The
findings of the study show that; levels of stress at the working place at TEMDO is high where
77% of respondent described that at TEMDO majority of public servants are encountered with
stress while at the working place, not only that but also 23% of respondents at TEMDO
described that at TEMDO some of employee are faced with low stress whereby, they termed
as constructive stress at the working place. Also, the findings of the study reveal that; source
of stress at the working place including, long working hours, too much work, overcrowding or
cramped at the working place and untidy or unclean environment as one of the major causes
of stress at the working place at TEMDO. Not only that but also the findings of the study show
the impact of stress at the work place at TEMDO, including poor customer services delivery,
employee’s poor performance and lack of team work. Apart from that but also the researcher
