Abstract:
This study aims to assess the impact of team-building activities on motivation and
productivity in Tanzanian renewable energy firms. Key objectives are to examine
activities used to foster team-building, explore the influence of team-building activities
on employee development, and examine the relationship between team-building
activities and employee motivation in renewable energy companies in Tanzania. This
study employed a descriptive design in which a total of 126 questionnaires were
distributed to the respondents. 114 (90.47%) questionnaires were filled in and
returned for analysis while only 9.52%, which was equivalent to 12 respondents, were
not returned. The regression results revealed that approximately 21.14% of the
variation in employee motivation was explained by the model which considered the
effect of outdoor challenges, communication engagement, retreat, collaborative
problem-solving, and team lunch/dinner. The remaining 78.86% can be explained by
other unidentified factors. Consequently, findings from the regression result indicated
that activities such as communication engagement, collaborative problem-solving, and
team lunch/dinner are significant in explaining employee motivation while the retreat
and outdoor challenges were insignificant. It is evident that team-building activities
have a substantial influence on employees' motivation and development. Therefore, organizations should take measures to enhance team-building programs. Moreover,
these measures should integrate communication engagement, problem-solving, and
team lunches/dinners, among other activities. It is reported that these activities
significantly contributed to explaining employee motivation.
