Abstract:
he main objective of this study was to assess the role of training and development program in
achieving organizational objectives. Specific objectives were to determine the role of training
programs in achieving both employee and organizational objectives, to assess the influence of
staff training and development programs in the organization, and to determine the importance of
staff training and development program in employees career path. Data collection techniques
included interviews and questionnaire. Interviews were used to collect primary data through one-
on-one conversations with school managers, directors and headmasters while questionnaire on
the other hand, were used to collect data from teachers and other relevant respondents including
local government authorities in Ilemela district education department. Data were analyzed using
statistical packages for social sciences software. The sample size included 67 teaching and non-
teaching personnel from the six selected private primary schools at Ilemela Ward. Finding have
shown that Training programs help employees including teachers to achieve their objectives
which then facilitate easier and successful achievement of objectives of the organizations for
which they work or teach; training and development influence organizations to achieve their
immediate, short-term and long-term objectives which in the end enable them to survive into this
ever-competitive business environment; training and development have fundamental importance
in improving the career path of employees including teachers and non-teaching staff. The study
