dc.description.abstract This study sought to examine the challenges that negatively affecting the performance of Tanzania Teachers Union (TTU) In Morogoro Municipal Council. SPecticallYi the study was guided by three objectives, which were to explore the awareness of the members on the roles and function the TTU, examine the perception on the members on the performance of the Tanzania Teachers Union, and examine internal and external challenge that negatively affect the performance of TTU. The study adopted for case study research design and mixed research approach use both qualitative and quantitative research approach. The sample size of the study was 60 respondents who were selected through simple random sampling. The study collected primary and secondary data whereas questionnaires, key informants interview (Kis) and Focus Group Discussion was used. The finding revealed that majority of the respondents were aware of the roles and functions of TTU, even though few were not aware of the duties performed by trade union. Furthermore, the study indicated that, majority of members of TTU were no negative on the performance of trade union and criticise the union for poor performance, selfishness of the leaders, corruption and poor accountability. The findings found out that TTU is highly affected by internal challenges than external challenges, the internal challenges include selfishness and personal interest of the leaders, lack of internal democracy and mismanagement of funds. The study concluded that teachers are not satisfied with the performance of Tanzania Teachers Union in Morogoro Municipal Council The study recommends that, Tanzania Teachers Union should improve transparency, corruption practices and avoid financial mismanagement. The trade union should strengthen internal democracy and ensure effective members participation of decisions that affects their welfares. Moreover, the study recommends that, Tanzania Teachers Union should disengage with politics and party politics and focuses on the fighting on the increase salaries increments, promotion and good working environment for its members. en_US
