IMPACT OF TANZANIA SOCIAL ACTION FUND (TASAF) III ON POVERTY REDUCTION:

Abstract

Despite comprehensive governments' plans, strategies and budgets towards reduction of poverty among the society, still poverty prevails in Tanzania. The main objective of this study is to assess the impact of Tanzania Social Action Fund (TASAF) Ill on poverty reduction Bukoba Municipal Council. The study sought to achieve three specific objectives. The objectives included to identify problems faced by TASAF III on poverty reduction in Bukoba Municipal Council, to examine the effectiveness of TASAF III on poverty reduction in Bukoba Municipal Council, and assess the influence of TASAF III on poverty reduction in Bukoba Municipal Council. Research approach was quantitative and data analysis was done by descriptive statistics supported by SPSS to analyze data. The study findings have shown that implementation of TASAF Ill project has been faced with problems such as low quality of staff, inadequate TASAF personnel, inadequate fund, and negative attitude of community members, cultural barrier and poor cooperation from ward leaders. Study findings have shown that TASAF Ill project has been effective in terms of improvement of education infrastructure, improvement of health services, environmental conversation, improvement of agriculture, income generation and improvement of access to electricity. The study findings have also shown the implementation of TASAF Ill has positive impact on poverty reduction in Bukoba Municipal Council. This study concludes that implementation of TASAF 1111 projects in Bukoba Municipal Council has helped to reduce poverty. This study recommends that TASAF should continue collaboration with Bukoba Municipal Council in order to strength efforts for poverty reduction.
