IMPACT OF AGRICULTURAL CASH CROPS EXPORT ON ECONOMICS GROWTH:EVIDENCE FROM TANZANIA MAINLAND

Abstract

Exports are defined as an economic and commercial activity that is considered to be very important in the economic growth and sustainable development of nations. This study sought to assess the impact of agricultural cash crops export on the economic growth of Tanzania. Specific objectives of this study were; to examine the impact of cotton exports on economic growth in Tanzania, to determine the impact of coffee exports on economic growth in Tanzania. And to evaluate to what extent does tea expor1 impacts on economic growth in Tanzania This study used a causal research design. Secondary data was obtained in general, the data needed for this analysis were collected from the World Bank Indicators and Bank of Tanzania for the 26-year period 1994-2019. With the aid of STATA, data was quantitatively analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Findings showed that coffee exports had significant impact on economic growth of Tanzania. Findings also indicated that cotton exports had significant impact on economic growth of Tanzania. Moreover, findings portrayed that tea exports had significant impact on economic growth of Tanzania. This study recommends that modem production technologies of coffee, cotton and tea must be swiftly introduced to upgrade the traditional methods currently used and encouraging large commercial farms through providing new potential land and enforcing the implementation of different export incentives given for the exporters. Moreover, it is important for future researchers to conduct studies on the impact of non-agriculture exports on economic growth of Tanzania.
