Abstract:
Despite the Government's effort to make sure that, there is good governance in the provision of social services to the citizen especially water, there seems to be dissatisfaction of people due to poor governance in the provision of these resources. This motivated the researcher to assess challenges inhibits good governance practices in delivering of social services like water services to Dodoma residents in the Dodoma Municipality. The study involved a sample size of 96 respondents that were selected from the population 184 stakeholders of water supply in Dodoma Municipality. The study employed quantitative approach which involved descriptive research design. Data were selected by using structured questionnaires. Analysis of data was done on SPSS Version 21. Analysis involved use of frequencies and percentages that were presented by using Tables. This study found that water accessibility in Dodoma Municipality is inhibited by problems such as poor water infrastructure, shortage of water supply networks, high population growth, lack of community participation and low revenue collection. This study found that DUWASA plays various roles in addressing water supply problems such as delivery water, providing public information, collaborating with stakeholders, setting water prices. This study found that water users in Dodoma Municipality apply various copying mechanisms such as buying water storage facilities, buying water from private vendors, harvesting rain water and walking long distance to search for water. On basis of these findings, it concluded that good governance in water service provision in Dodoma Municipality is affected by multiple problems ranging from technical, resources and participation related problem.
