Abstract:
The study aimed at assessing the Influence of Geographical Information Systems in Monitoring and Evaluation practice for World Vision- Tanzania projects. The research was conducted in Arusha region, in areas were World Vision- Tanzania established development projects. The study employed both quantitative and qualitative approach where by Cross-sectional research design was used to guide the study. The total of 53 respondents was sampled from World Vision staff and partners. The study used two data collection methods such as questionnaire survey and documents review. Furthermore, the obtained data were analyzed through descriptive analysis techniques in which frequency and percentages were used to summarize the study findings. Results from the data analyzed showed that the respondents unanimously accepted that application of Geographical Information Systems in Monitoring and Evaluation practice has led to effective data storage and management, improvement in data collection process for project development, excellence project information sharing and visualization and progress tracking. Furthermore the study recommended that Geographical Information’s System data integration should be adopted for all public and private projects to ensure that all data is centralized for ease project Monitoring and Evaluation to the project implementation team and stakeholders. Furthermore, during project design phase, Geographical information’s system progress tracking should be factored in as one of the key activities to be implemented with emphasis to ensure good performance of projects.
