Abstract:
It is generally accepted that security is a major concern among cyber devices and their users. Of recent, IoT has penetrated many aspects of human life, including social, economic, technical, and environmental. While being used, IoT gathers massive personal and sensitive information that is stored locally and in cloud-based services. This study mainly sought to determine the security implications associated with IoT device usage. To establish, the research adopted the quantitative research approach and a descriptive research design. 277 respondents were randomly interviewed in this research through an online questionnaire using google forms. The data retrieved from the respondents is analyzed through the SPSS platform where the data is presented in the form establishing the dominant themes. Findings ranked hacking, data theft, and spoofing as the main security implications of IoT device usage. This study also established that users have not established the appropriate data security measures such as using different passwords on different IoT devices. This is mainly due to the low data security awareness among the IoT users in Tanzania. This is because users have the confidence that their IoT devices are data secured. There is thus the need to ensure that the IoT devices on the market are data secure.
